Urology at Fauquier Health

June 23, 2025

Mohamad Salkini, MD, F.A.C.S.

Dr. Salkini is a board-certified Urologist at Fauquier Health. Growing up the son of two Family Practice physicians, says Dr. Salkini, “I saw how they helped people and made a difference, so medicine was a natural choice for me. I loved surgery early in medical school, so urology was a great fit because it combines surgery with medicine. I get the best of both worlds; I can care for patients in my practice, but I can offer surgical options to help their condition too. It is very gratifying to help improve the quality of life of my patients.”

Dr. Salkini completed fellowships in endourology and laparoscopic urology at Klinikum Heilbronn, a teaching hospital of Heidelburg University in Germany before completing an additional fellowship in endourology, laparoscopy and robotic surgery at the University of Cincinnati. He then joined West Virginia University as an Assistant Professor of Urology and the Director of Robotic Surgery. During his tenure with WVU, he was promoted to Professor of Urology and the Director of Urologic Oncology.

When the opportunity to practice at Fauquier Health came up, he was impressed by what he saw.  “What I really liked was that this is a hospital passionate about patient care. Fauquier Health is unique as a community hospital because we can provide many different solutions with the latest technology, including robotic, laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery; our standard of quality care is excellent, and the nursing care is outstanding.”

“We provide comprehensive robotic surgery here; for urology, we can surgically treat prostate, kidney, adrenal and bladder cancers, and perform robotic urinary tract reconstruction. The robot offers a minimally invasive option, which can be better for patients in many ways.”

Giving back is important to Dr. Salkini. He participates in annual medical mission trips to war-torn areas. “We can take medical care to somewhere it is not available. It is a special feeling to know that you are helping people who are struggling due to a shortage of doctors and expertise. Simply by having the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, people suffer from life-changing injuries. I can go there and offer my surgical expertise to repair the injury and reconstruct their urinary tract, so that they can heal, or better adapt to their situation. At the same time, I can educate local doctors on these techniques so they can also help more people. It makes my heart full to know that I am making a difference.”

Family is also very important to him. Dr. Salkini and his wife, who has a Masters Degree in Public Health, have three sons, and they enjoy spending time together. His brother and parents also live in Northern Virginia. “Being close to everyone played a part in my decision to come here. But it was also that Fauquier Health is a great place to practice medicine. We have great technology, and a dedicated staff who are committed to our patients. I get great feedback from my patients on the care they get here.”
